Community viewing series: Promoting digital literacy in the contemporary college environment

About this event

Body

Douglas College is advancing digital literacy through college-wide efforts that align with the BC Post-Secondary Digital Literacy Framework. Our approach addresses both institutional and human needs in the digital era, with initiatives spanning strategic planning, faculty development, resource creation, and human-centred reflection.

Key initiatives include:
    • Strategic Plan (2025–2030) commitments to digital literacy frameworks, principles, and strategies.
    • A Digital Literacy-Focused Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) launching November 2025.
    • A faculty website on DC Connect linking to BCcampus repositories and the eight provincial competencies.
    • The DESC blog dialogue series, asking educators ""What do we need to retain of humanity in the face of AI?""
    • The new Teaching and Research Commons (TREC), providing faculty workshops and supports centred on digital literacy.

This session will highlight Douglas College's integrated approach, share replicable models, and invite participants to reflect on how digital literacy can be advanced while protecting essential human attributes in education.
